Matlock V won their last match before Christmas at Belper IV, despite players unavailable due to injury, school concerts and even champagne breakfasts.

The Matlock hockey side’s early charge was led by Miranda Marshall with Sara Gould on the left and Cerys Heap on the right.

They threaded the ball into the D and Helen Greer, Lucy Knowles and Janice Bush were able to set up numerous shots .

Greer came closest to scoring with a cracking shot that ricocheted off the post.

Despite Matlock’s best efforts it was 0-0 at the break.

In the second half, following a poor tackle at the top of the D Matlock were awarded a penalty corner, and Bush received the ball from Lowri Heap, her shot was saved and Cerys Heap was on hand to net the rebound.

Sub Sally Bradbury came on to assist the forwards by sweeping up stray balls.

Gould moved from midfield to the forward line and made some excellent runs into the D.

When Belper did manage to take play into Matlock territory they were dealt with by Lowri Heap, Lindsay Allen and Susanna Doxey.

Bridget Gould, sweeping, and Claire Mosley in goal ensured Matlock kept a clean sheet and retained their lead.

Player of the Match was Cerys Heap.
