AN opening 36 holes of eight under par left Greg Owen leading the field in last week’s Mayakoba Golf Classic in Mexico.

Sadly he couldn’t sustain his scoring and after dropping two shots to par over the closing 36 holes he had to settle for a share of 16th place.

Looking on his season so far he said: “I’ve made four out of five cuts and finished ninth at Pebble.

“It’s getting back to where I used to play four or five years ago, and that feels nice. It’s been a bit of wandering around in the wilderness for a couple of years, so it’s nice to see my play is back and it’s nice to see a few putts drop in.”
