First-half try flurry seals Ollerton win over Rolls Royce

OLLERTON enjoyed a solid home 41-21 win over Rolls Royce in the Midlands Division Five league thanks to a flurry of six first-half tries.

Ollerton had a good start with skipper Stuart Parker crashing over for a try in the corner.

Flanker Lee Andrew was next on the score sheet diving over outwide. Fly-half Josh Metcalfe converted both touchline conversions.

It was Metcalfe who set his backs away with three more tries as Ollerton tightened their grip. Centre Leighton Kirk sprinted in for two solo tries, then Kirk pulled off a classy pass through his legs, which released man-of-the-match Eric Cranmer, who handed off a few players on his way for a try. Metcalfe added the conversion.

Rolls Royce replied with a good converted try just before the break leaving them trailing 36-7.

The second half was a different story though as Rolls Royce re-grouped and played some good attacking rugby.

They scored two converted tries from their midfield to give them a sniff at getting back into the game.

But Ollerton had the last say with good work from front-rowers Stacey Heathershaw and Richard Atkins setting up a good team try, before Kirk finished the scoring off as he got his much deserved hat-trick.

Ollerton II travelled to Paviors IV, where they were narrowly beaten 22-20.

Paviors had the edge scoring four tries to Ollertons three.

Ollerton’s try scorers were scrum-half Rian Bartle, fly-half Matt Abdy and their man-of-thematch Kalunga Buwaya. Carl Milne completed the scoring with a penalty and conversion.
