SPARTANS saw off a battling Paviors to win 47-38.
Spartans turned up 90 minutes before kick-off which gave them extra time to prepare and they were out of the blocks fast.
Flanker Matt Gilbert made a mazy run through the Paviors defence to score under the posts, converted by Dan Wilson.
Paviors came back fighting which resulted in points from a penalty.
Prop Shaun Underwood then took a crash ball from the line-out which resulted in Paviors conceding a penalty before Daniel Dykes crashed through into the corner for the second try.
The next came with some good rucking from forwards Bradley Mower, Gary Pinnick and Grant Allen, which resulted in a pick up from Calum Sheriff, which he took straight under the posts for a try, converted by Wilson.
Spartans kept up the pressure to score in quick succession with flanker Daniel Dykes bursting through the middle, and offloading to Bradley Mower, who quickly returned the ball for Daniel Dykes to take over the line.
The try was also converted.
Then hooker Bradley Mower chipped the ball to the line and Calum Sheriff showed great pace to touch it down in the corner.
The try was converted to take the half- time score to 33-3 to Spartans who made four interval substituions.
Paviors ran in three early trys before Spartans made tactical changes and an injury to Lee Fotheringham meant Chris Sheriff returned.
That helped Spartans regain focus and scrum half Craig Savage broke through to put under the posts and the conversion was added.
Paviors came back with another try of their own before Spartans changed defence into attack with some quick thinking from Craig Savage resulted in him breaking through for his second try, and the conversion was added.
Paviors’ pack then put pressure on the Spartans with great tackles from Robbert Eggleton and Andy Flowers to hold them.
But Paviors broke through with the last play of the game to score a converted try.
