Mansfield Giants Ladies’ hopes of making the play-offs were ended by a 59-41 defeat to Worcester Wolves.
Giants needed to win by 13 points, but Worcester were also looking to cement their place in the top four and earn a trip south to the Basketball England Division Two play-offs.
Giants started well with Alison Bridge and Ashlea Smith combining for nine points. But without the inside presence of Charlotte Levitt, who was unavailable, the team struggled defensively towards the end of the quarter, allowing Worcester to lead 17-14.
Jo Richards put up a couple of long-range shots to score six of the Giants’ seven points in the second quarter, but Wolves extended their advantage to 12 points at half-time.
Bridge also landed some big shots in the final quarter.
Scorers: 16 Bridge, 9 Richards, 6 Smith/Wheldon, 2 Cruickshank/Gonzalez, Arsharmian, Blakeway.
