Mansfield teenager Rebecca Gillespie is celebrating winning a gold medal at the British Figure Skating Championships in Sheffield.
The 14-year-old was one of three skaters who train at Nottingham’s National Ice Centre to bring home gold, Rebecca’s coming in the Advanced Novice Ladies category.
The other Nottingham golds were in the Senior Ice Dance category by Penny Coomes and Nick Buckland and the Junior Men’s category by Joshua Brown.
Silver medals went to Ellie O’Connell & Joshua Tarry (Advanced Novice Ice Dance) and Jamie Tsang (Basic Novice B Men) plus a bronze for Joseph Zakipour (Basic Novice B Men).
Gold medal winner Joshua Brown stars in CBBC’s Ice Stars TV programme and is aiming to represent GB at the World Junior Figure Skating Championships in Hungary early next year.
The National Ice Centre’s director of skating, Gurgen Vardanjan said: “I’m extremely pleased with these results.
“Each skater has progressed well over the year, so to see them achieve top results in this competition makes me feel very proud.”
High performance manager for NISA, Robin Cousins said: “The British Championships is a great chance for skaters of all ages to come together and show the country what they have to offer.
“For NISA it’s an opportunity to identify talent and see our next generation of Olympians.”
