Birkin comes through to win Sherwood Forest Fishery match

Any of the top four could have won Sherwood Forest Fishery’s Open Match on Sunday, before Andy Burkin emerged victorious.

Birkin fished the pole and paste out at 12m he landed 95lb 8oz of carp – 8lb and winning with just 4oz to spare over Leon Hardwick.

Leon fished the method feeder and the pellet waggler shallow cast to the lily pads at peg 27 landing 22 carp – 7lb for 95lb 4oz.

Results: 1st: Andy Birkin, Phil’s Bait & Tackle, peg 34, 95-8-0; 2nd: Leon Hardwick, Mosborough Tackle Box, peg 27, 95-4-0; 3rd: Pete Hodgetts, Sherwood Forest Fishery, peg 17, 94-9-0; 4th: Nigel Shipman, Sherwood Forest Fishery, peg 51, 91-4-0; 5th: Mick Langton, Sherwood Forest Fishery, peg 45, 79-14-0; 6th Craig Logan Eastwood Angling peg 20, 79-8-0.

In the Wednesday Open at Holmedale Lake, the 16 anglers struggled with a gusting and persistent rain.

It made presentation very difficult, but it turned out to be a very good match,

Winner Craig Brazier drew peg 14 fishing the pole and maggot out at 2+2 and down the margins landing carp – 9lb with a total of 97lb 4oz.

In second place Pete Hodgetts fished the pole and meat short at 5m landing 37 small carp – 4lb
