Amber Valley Spartans were beaen 90-81 Racing Ockbrook on Monday night.
The game started slow for the Spartans allowing Ockbrook to gain a quick 10 point lead in the beginning of the first quarter.
Coach Mark Woodhouse called a needed time out to refocus the team and this had an impact as the Spartans bounced back to reduce the gap to a three point to trail 25-22.
Throughout the second quarter Racing Ockbrook gradually extended their lead back up to 10 points.
The Spartans worked hard to battle through the quarter, but baskets just didn’t fall for them.
Racing Ockbrook played aggressive and drove towards the basketball which the team found difficult to handle.
After the half, the Spartans looked strong and played well closing down on the rivals to a six point gap.
Shooting outside the arc from Josh Pickering and inside scores from David Holland helped to place the team with a chance heading into the fourth quarter.
The game looked close all the way till the end, until the gap become too great.
The close defeat puts Amber Valley Spartans II second in the standings and shall provide a learning curve for the team.
