More glory for Mansfield Harriers as May Roberts wins U15s title

In the final race of the Nottinghamshire Mini League Cross Country series May Roberts again demonstrated why she is one of the most consistent athletes in the county, coming second at Newark on Sunday to win the five-race U15 girl series.

That second place and victories in the previous three races gave May an unassailable lead.

In the U13 girls race the club had three first timers competing, all running excellently for debut performances with Courtney Spencer placing 13th, Paige Vick 18th and Abigail Kemp 27th.

With experience and further training all three can be expected to improve greatly.

In the U13 boys another debutant, Mikey Hopkins, had a promising run to finish 17th and the ever-consistent Alistair Hardwick came 27th.

Bev Smedley, competed in the challenging Caythorpe Dash off road half marathon, finishing fifth lady in a pleasing time of 1.54

Last but not least, three of the Mansfield juniors went to the very competitive Northern Indoor Championships at Sheffield, and all competed admirably against very strong competition.

Chloe Allcock equalled her personal best in the high jump to record 1.40 and finish sixth.

Sophia Stewart continued her fine indoor season, achieving three personal bests - the 200m in 28.45, long jump 4.34 and 60m in 8.38 - a time good enough to get her into the semi-final.

Ellie Sheppard competed in the U13 60m and 200m and, like the other two, was outstanding in what was her debut indoor track performance.
