Melbourne Dynamo take the points despite Selston dominance

Selston FC saw their five-match unbeaten run come to an end on Saturday as Melbourne Dynamo secured a 3–1 victory in the Central Midlands Alliance Premier Division South.
Manager Lee Stevenson made four changes to the side that defeated Wirksworth Ivanhoe in midweek, with Tom Batterham, Josh Smith, Luke Reynolds and Ben Hines coming into the starting line-up.
On a bright afternoon that later produced wind, rain and even hail, Selston began strongly and dominated possession in the early stages. Slick passing football created several promising openings, but the visitors were unable to turn their chances into goals.
Despite Selston’s control of the game, Melbourne struck first deep into first-half stoppage time when a corner caused confusion in the Selston defence and the ball ricocheted into the net off a defender.

The hosts doubled their advantage on 52 minutes when a long throw into the box was flicked on and again deflected into the Selston goal for an unfortunate second own goal.
Selston responded well and reduced the deficit on 70 minutes. A long throw from England was cleared to the edge of the area where captain Jack Cockram struck a superb half-volley from 20 yards for his 12th goal of the season.
The visitors pushed for an equaliser, but Melbourne sealed the win in stoppage time with a breakaway goal.
Defender Jake Payling earned Man of the Match honours after a composed defensive display in difficult conditions.
