Medal success for Sherwood Colliery Swimming Club

Sherwood Colliery Swimming Club’s youth swimmers competed against the best talent from across the combined East Midlands and West Midlands regions in the British Gas Midland Youth Championships and came home with a number of individual medals, two senior regional champion titles, as well as finalist places.

Representing Sherwood, but swimming as part of Nottinghamshire’s elite Nova Centurion squad, 18-year-old Imogen Gould bought home two gold medals and senior regional champion titles in the womens ‘17yrs/over 200m individual medley and 50m butterfly, adding a silver to her weekend medal tally in the 50m breaststroke.

Also, 20-year-old Lewis Steptoe qualified for the men’s 17yrs/over 400m freestyle final, placing sixth overall.

Jade Clarke (17) had a busy weekend, qualifying for four individual finals in the women’s 17yrs/over events, placing fifth in the 200m backstroke, sixth in the 50m freestyle, sixth in the 50m backstroke and seventh in the 100m backstroke.

Sherwood and Nova Centurion squad members, Connor Smith, Robert Barton, Sebastian Smith, Shannon Brown, Hannah Carnell, Emily Waldram and Amelia Sale all celebrated individual successes, including top 10 finishes and new personal best times.

Away from the regional stage, Sherwood A continued their unbeaten gala record in local leagues, taking another first place at Retford to make it three wins out of three in Division One of the Nottinghamshire Sports Centre League .

Meanwhile Sherwood B recorded a superb win at Water Meadows in Division Three.

At the halfway point, Sherwood A currently sit at the top of Division One with Sherwood B second in Division Three.
