Mansfeld swimmer Elliot Clogg marked his European Junior debut with English age group records in the heats and semis of the 100m Freestyle in Hungary.

The Meden Academy pupil and City of Sheffield swimmer lowered the National 16 years marker, touching in 50.97 to finish 16th overall and reach the semi finals.

No English 16 year-old had breached 51 seconds since 2013 with the British record just a fraction out of his grasp at 50.67.

Clogg’s old personal best was a 51.05 effort to win the Junior final at the British Championships in Glasgow back in March.

In a packed programme of 14 races over the five days of competition, Clogg started his Hungarian campaign with the preliminary heats of the 100m Backstroke, progressing through to the semi finals to finish 12th overall.

The 100m Freestyle prelims and semi-final followed before the 200m Backstroke event with prelims and another semi final finishing 13th.

In the sprint events, Clogg swam the 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke.

As well as his individuals, Clogg then joined fellow Team GB Juniors in the team events, progressing through the preliminary heats of the Mixed 4 x 100m Medley relay to bag a superb bronze medal in the final, leading the GB quartet off with a 56.44 Backstroke leg.

He also clocked a 51.18 lead off leg on day two to help the British Mixed 4 x 100m Freestyle relay quartet to progress into the final finishing 8th. Clogg closed his programme with another lead-off leg in the Men’s 4 x 100m Medley relay just missing out on a finals place finishing 11th.

Clogg also holds British Junior short course records in the 100m Freestyle, as well as 50m, 100m & 200m Backstroke.
