Mansfield U15s cycle the Tour!

Mansfield Rugby Club’s newly-promoted U15s have set themselves a unique cycling challenge ahead of the new season.

Determined to organise a once in a lifetime trip to Twickenham, the home of England Rugby, to see the Rugby World Cup next year, the youngsters will undertake a sponsored cycling event this weekend, attempting to mark the end of the Tour de France by cycling the entire gruelling 2,277 miles that the real life riders will have undertaken on the Tour.

Their attempt will take place at PureGym on Mansfield Leisure Park from noon today (Friday).

A club spokesperson said: “Mansfield U15s would like to like to thank PureGym and Body&Soul Gym for the their generosity in supplying us with the bikes.

“Also PureGym personal trainer Jodi Duncan for volunteering to be a guest cyclist on the Friday evening.”

U15s head coach Simon Stuart began coaching the side in 2008 when they were a team of six eight-10-year-olds.

Now six years on, a team of 30 dedicated 14-year-olds, plus four assistant coaches, have proved that hard work can produce success on the pitch.

A determined Shield campaign and an 18-match winning streak won them a place in their first ever final and won them promotion to the cup.
