Emily Bingley, Georgina Tasker, Lois Markland and Heidi Seaton have all been selected to represent the Midlands U15s’ squad for the rest of the campaign. This follows impressive performances from the quartet for both their club and for the Nottinghamshire, Lincolnshire and Derbyshire (NLD) county side.

Their selection shows that since the girls’ section was launched four years ago, with just six players, it has gone from strength to strength, developing through its links with primary and secondary schools in the Mansfield area. There are now more than 60 girls on the club’s books, with thriving squads at U11 and U13 levels, as well as U15. Mansfield even have plans to start a new U18 girls’ team, so the future looks bright.

“Numbers have shot up, and we have created a really good environment,” said the head of the section, Pete Haskell. “We also have more than ten coaches now, and the U18 team will be the final piece in the jigsaw.” Any girls in school years four to 13, who might be interested in trying rugby union, should contact Haskell on 07990 662685.
