Taylor took first place overall in the category for boys aged 16 and over, but he wasn’t the only swimmer who came away from the pool feeling pleased with their achievements.

For no fewer than 24 personal-best times and club records were broken, with the distinguished roll of honour reading: Amelia Hargrave, Abigail Young, Charlotte Hopkinson, Beth Hamilton, Hannah Wilkinson, Iris Hafeli-Burton, Callum Brookes, Mason Brown, Max Burroughes, Sam Hammond, Lewis Meade, Tyler Brown, Bailey Slater, Lewes Shorthose, William Merritt, Brendan O’Keefe, Ben Sharrocks, Chris Baguley, Charlotte Baguley and Emily Canavan-Taylor, as well as Taylor.

Meanwhile Mansfield’s 11-to-12-year-old boys’ teams reached the finals of the medley relay and freestyle relay, finishing a superb second in both. Bailey Slater, Lewis Meade and Tyler Brown were in each team, with William Merritt also in the medley squad and Lewes Shorthose also in the freestyle final.

A club spokesman said: “The performances of the swimmers were tremendous achievements, showing that all the training and team spirit were well worthwhile.

“All the swimmers should be proud of their efforts, and a big thankyou must go to those who offered so much support over the two days of swimming. The atmosphere was electric, with the roof being raised by cheering spectators and poolside coaches Barry Tindall and Dave Baguley, and club captains Caroline Meade, Charlie-May Meade and Sheila O’Keefe.”
