MANOR School pupil Thomas Dobson (12) has won a national field archery title against boys up to four years older than himself.

Thomas, of Mansfield Woodhouse, attended the National Field Archery Society 3D Championships and won his U16 Hunting Tackle class and is now the National Champion in this category.

This is Thomas’ first season competing as an U16 as he has just moved up out of the U12 section, in which he has been national champion for the last two years.

He beat last year’s champion by 10 points, which is equivalent to one shot.

On the second day of shooting he beat his personnel best score and on 15 out of 40 targets achieved maximum points.

Thomas competes in field archery and was shooting a range of 3D targets hidden in woodland.

The competition is over two different courses with a different course being shot on each day of competition.

Thomas is a member of the Spirit of Sherwood Archery Club.

The club woods are located close to the main entrance to Clumber park.
