Local swimmers selected for National Championships

Local swimmers have once again earned the chance to shine on the National stage after being selected to compete in the 2015 British National & ASA English National Championships, being hosted at the prestigious Ponds Forge pool in Sheffield.

Results from licensed, long course (50m) competitions held between March and May were used as the basis to form rankings of the top swimmers eligible to participate; the top 24 being eligible to compete at the British event and the next 20 for the ASA English event.

The establishment of two new National championships was announced back in October as part of British Swimming’s new competition structure and has been designed to expose a greater number of young, talented swimmers to National level competition.

Celebrating their selections were Falcon ASC’s Tom Howarth, Mansfield SC’s Summer Kennedy and Rhys Taylor, Sherwood Colliery SC’s Lily Boseley, Imogen Gould, Charlotte Henshaw, Natalee Meldrum and Jade Young and Sutton SC’s Hollie Dove, Kelsey Edwards, Mia Fergie, Oliver Hynd, Joseph Schenk and Sargon Youssefi-Titchen.

Away from the championships, Meden Academy pupil and City of Sheffield squad member Elliot Clogg is also celebrating National selection after securing a place with the England-North squad at this Summer’s Sainsbury’s 2015 UK School Games.

British Swimming has positioned the UK School Games in its swimming pathway since the first Games, sitting just below the very top level of swimmers aged 15 years and under that enter the European Youth Championships.

Elliot’s selection comes as a result of his performances at top grade meets over the past year and as he still nervously awaits news of his possible European Youth Olympic Festival selection.
