Local pool contingent sparkle for England in Malta

Gary McLeod, who played for England seniors A team, got to the final of the Nations Cup seniors singles, losing to Mark Bowen, who is ranked fifth best player in the world.

The seniors’ A team got to the semi-final of the team event with Kev Seaman and Gary McLeod in the team.

Mansfield’s Nottinghamshire county manager Harvey Elmhirst managed the England U23 teams, and his A side won the A team event, beating world champions Scotland 13-11 in the final and remaining unbeaten all competition.

Also in that winning side was local player Ashley Radford.

The U23 B1 side were runners-up in the B team event with Haydn Hickling in the team.

Also, the U23 B2 team got to the semi-finals with local pair Luke Wrigglesworth and Liam Crayon in the team.

Dean Croft, who played for England men’s B2 team, reached the semi-finals before losing to Ireland, Steve Staniforth, who played for England over 50s team, got to the final, and Chris Croft played for the U18 A team and got 68 per cent over the week.

The U18 B1 team lost in the final with Greg Davis and Sean Logan in the side while Ashley Radford, who plays for the U23s, got to the singles semi-finals in what was a great week for the locally-based playing talent.

l Towers teams took all three divisional titles in the Monday Night Pool team at the Towers. Towers EMC retained their Division One crown with Hotshots runners-up, Towers A won Division Two with Notts Juniors second and Towers B won Division Three with Jak’s runners-up.
