This time fellow high-flyers Cuckney 2nds were their victims thanks to a well-timed run chase in a match full of runs.

Cuckney scored what looked to be a possible match-winning 268 for six from their 50 overs, but the home side won by four wickets — striking the winning runs in the penultimate over.

The visitors’ total was based around solid batting and a 126-run third-wicket partnership by Richard Bostock, who made 87, including 11 boundaries, and Joseph Hayes.

Hayes scored his 72 from just 60 balls, hitting five sixes and four fours.

Opener Dan Brown gave Cuckney’s innings early impetus with a half-century.

Ian Woodall and Lee Wilson claimed two wickets each, and Wilson went on to play an important role with the bat.

Opener Adam Dutton was the anchor for the reply, unluckily finishing two runs short of a century after guiding the home side to the win.

Dutton hit 10 boundaries in his unbeaten 98, sharing an opening stand of 73 with Mark Wyatt, who smashed 12 boundaries in his quickfire 64 from 36 balls. Wilson hit a run-a-ball 57 and Louis Sprigg 21 not out.
