Kirkby Festival Hall celebrates champions

Bodybuilder Blake Mitchell became the IBFA U23 British champion in June, qualifying him for the European Championships in Rome on 25th October

Also in June powerlifter Anthony Spalding became the Junior 110kg European champion breaking three world records in the process

Meanwhile, Sarah and Stephen Summers, again in June, became the World 10 Dance Ballroom and Latin champions at a competition in Italy

Nick Stowey, Festival hall general manager said: “It’s fantastic to have British, European and world champions using and training at the facilities here at Festival Hall and even better that we can say that two of these are actually employed by the Leisure Centre.

“Their hard work, commitment and sacrifices have all paid off to make them the top of the sports they compete in.

“Blake and Anthony train here at least five times a week and are always happy to help anyone aspiring to compete or just for help with their training with training tips and help

“And Sarah and Stephen Summers have a ballroom dance class at the leisure centre on Thursdays at 8.30pm and encourage anyone to come down and give it a go. It’s not every day you could be taught to dance by the world champions.”
