Kirkby couple power up at Coventry

Kirkby couple Anthony Spalding and Kelly Burkinshaw both enjoyed a highly successful weekend at the British Powerlifting Championships at Coventry.

Both qualified for the European Championships in June and are now looking for anyone willing to sponsor them.

The pair train at Kirkby Festival Hall where Spalding (24) also works.

This year he came third in his category, now competing in the open categories as opposed to juniors so facing tougher competition but still qualifying for the European Championships.

Burkinshaw decided to take up competing after seeing Spalding’s success last year and duly came first in the Junior U60kg category, breaking a world deadlift record in the process.
