Jordan wins duathlon series title

Mansfield Triathlon Club’s Jordan Boam claimed first place in the East Midlands Off-Road Duathlon Series.

The series consists of three off-road duathlons which take place at Clumber Park, Sherwood Pines and at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham.

The events are run in age group categories and Jordan was the convincing winner in the 15 to 19 category securing the series win even before the final race.

The club had further successes in the series with Ian Burdis finishing strongly in second place in the 40 to 44 category after an exceptionally tight series of races and Seamus Allison taking fifth in category in the 50 to 54 category, despite a run of mishaps including crashes and a puncture.

Katy Wilson, Daniel Wilson and Adam Ansty also competed for the club, each completing one race in the series and finishing strongly in each one.

A duathlon consists of a run, followed by a bike section before a final run, with series distances typically 5km, 16km and 1.4km for the final run.

The club’s recent successes continued with prolific top-three competitor Sally Hughes taking second lady overall in the Turkey Trot marathon, completing the 13.1 mile course in just 1:30:19. Also running for the club was Ian Conn, who achieved the exceptional time of 1:24:38 for sixth in category and Lorraine Garvey who posted a personal best, finishing in 1:49:51.
