Two local ladies put in terrific performances at the recent European Powerlifting Championships last month.

Jane Stevenson and Bella Whitlam both competed at the event in Coventry as part of the British Powerlifting Team.

Teams from Ireland, France and Germany also competed along with a visiting guest team from India.

Both Jane and Bella, who are members at Angels Gym in Forest Town, gave outstanding performances in their respective classes.

The standard was very high amongst competitors and the international judges were strict on lifting form, making the local duo’s achievements all the more outstanding. Bella, aged 14 from Rainworth, competed in the teen category.

She won her class with a lift of 100kg to become the European Teen Champion.

Meanwhile Jane, from Mansfield, competed in the Ladies Open class.

She too came away with victory after winning thanks to a huge lift of 140kg.

That was enough to not only ensure she won the European Championship title but also meant she was the Best Overall Female Deadlifter of the entire competition.

Having won their respective classes both Jane and Bella have now qualified for the invitation-only World Powerlifting Championships in Limerick, Ireland.

This prestigious event takes place in October and both ladies have world records and gold medals within their sights.
