Hodgetts wins Holmedale Open

Pete Hodgetts was victorious in the Sherwood Forest Farm Park Fishery Open on Sunday, 19th January, thanks to a solid start on Holmedale Lake.

He fished the pole and pellet out at 13m on two lines, feeding micros, and was off to a good start, landing eight carp in the first hour.

Then 20 more to 8lb followed in the next four hours, putting a total of 83lb 9oz on the scales.

In second place Sheffield’s Jonathan Turton fished the pole and pellet out at 16m catching carp to 6lb steady all match, weighing in 80lb 8oz.

Only the top two in the 15th January Wednesday Open on Holmedale got into any fish with fishery boss Mick Langton finishing well in front.

Drawn at peg 32 he fished the pole out at 13+16m. With 4mm pellet on the hook and feeding very few micros, he landed 24 carp to 7lb and four bream to 4lb, weighing in a creditable 89lb 8oz.

In second place Pete fished the pole and pellet tight to the island at peg 45, landing his biggest carp of almost 11lb on his first put-in, followed by 19 others to 6lb.

Wednesday Open, 15th January, Holmedale Lake, 17 fished: 1st Mick Langton Sherwood Forest Fishery peg 32, 89-8-0, 2nd Pete Hodgetts Sherwood Forest Fishery peg 45, 55-2-0, 3rd Nigel Shipman Sherwood Forest Fishery peg 36, 18-1-0, 4th Jamie Mills Nathans of Derby peg 27, 16-8-0, 5th John Thomas Sherwood Forest Fishery peg 54, 16-4-0, Angling Supplies peg 17, 4-10-0, 5th Mick Lysaght Rivendell AC peg 22, 4-7-0.

A very hard frost with ice in the margins made it hard for most in the Tuesday Open on Holmedale on Sherwood Lake.

But John Urrity kept warm by casting the waggler and maggot to the middle of the lake. Loose-feeding four maggots every cast, he put 18lb 5oz of small roach, perch and skimmers on the scales to easily take top spot.

Tuesday Open, 14th January, Sherwood Lake, 17 fished: 1st John Urrity Alfreton Angling peg 20, 18-5-0, 2nd Fred Bispham Sherwood Forest Fishery peg 16, 11-1-0, 3rd Dave Round Woodhouse Angling peg 14, 7-12-0, 4th Mick Burrell Gateford

Torrential rain and gale force winds greeted the anglers for round two of the Rivendell W/League, but despite the horrendous conditions plenty of bites were had by all

Steve Smedley, of Subfish, ran out a comfortable winner from peg 19 with 14lb 13oz of pellet caught skimmers and a bonus 3lb carp

In second place was Jim Mahon, Rivendell who, after breaking his pole in the strong winds, switched to the feeder and found some nice skimmers and ide.

Joe Wheeldon completed the frame with 8lb 09oz of pole caught skimmers and perch from peg 26.

Rivendell W/League Round Two, 26th January, Sherwood Lake: 1st Steve Smedley, Subfish 14-13, 2nd Jim Mahon, Rivendell 9-12, 3rd Joe Wheeldon, Rivendell 8-9, 4th Nick Oakley, Rivendell 7-13, 5th Ian Boyd, Woodhouse Angling Centre 7-04.

The cold days leading up to the Wednesday Open on 22nd January on Holmedale match dropped the water temperature down to three degrees, making it hard going for most.

In top spot again Mick Langton drew peg 32 and fished the pole and red maggot out at 16m and soft pellet at 13m, landing 30 small carp to 5lb, weighing in a total of 64lb 6oz.

Second was Andy Lakey who, drawn on end peg 51 on the day, fished the pole and maggot on two lines landing carp to 7lb in his 44lb 8oz net.

Wednesday Open, 22nd January, Holmedale Lake, 18 fished: 1st Mick Langton Sherwood Forest Fishery peg 32, 64-6-0, 2nd Andy Lakey Worksop Angling peg 51, 44-8-0, 3rd Brian Elliott Subfish Tackle peg 45, 33-1-0, 4th John Bleakly Sherwood Forest Fishery peg 27, 24-11-0, 5th Geoff Mawby Gateford Angling Supplies peg 36, 11-15-0.

With Sherwood Lake frozen solid before the start of the Tuesday Open on 21st January, it was time to get the ice breakers out.

Dave Round in top spot didn’t have a bite for the first two hours.

But he fished the pole and caster at 11m landing roach and ide to 12oz, finishing 14oz ahead of John Urrity, fishing the waggler and maggot for small roach and perch.

Tuesday Open, 21st January, Sherwood Lake, 14 fished: 1st Dave Round Woodhouse Angling peg 22, 9-4-0, 2nd John Urrity Alfreton Angling peg 14, 8-6-0, 3rd John Holmes Woodhouse Angling peg 21 6-10-0, 4th Mick Lysaght Rivendell AC peg 24, 5-5-0, 5th Fred Bispham Sherwood Forest Fishery peg 16, 3-2-0.

The Open match on Holmedale on 26th January proved very hard going for all, with strong winds and driving rain making presentation on the pole near impossible.

However, Mick Langton was on peg 32 and, sheltered by the big island, managed to fish the pole on two lines at 11+14m with pellet and maggot, landing 14 carp to 7lb and a winning weight of 51lb 14oz .

Second place went to Nigel Shipman who, drawn at peg 45, fished the pole and pellet on two lines at 8m, landing 11 carp to 6lb, just edging in front of the rest with 34lb 3oz.
