Harriers start season with a 1-2-3

In what was the opening race of this years Notts AAA’s Summer League series at Hexgrave Park near Bilsthorpe, Mansfield Harriers dominated the race from start to finish which resulted in the club achieving the top three places in the men’s 5.1 mile event.

James Mee won it in 26:30, with Stuart King second in 26:30 and Mark Johnson third in a time of 26:46.

Overall, the Harriers placed seven runners in the top 30 from a 240-strong field.

In the ladies’ race, Kahli Johnson was the leading Mansfield Harriers runner in a solid 13th place from a field of 138.

Six Sutton Harriers made it to the start line of the London Marathon.

First of them homewas Dean Cross in 2:55:16 a fantastic run despite his training and preparation being hampered with injury.

Second back, Paul Whittingham finally beat his London ‘nemisis’ by completing it under three hours in a superb time of 2:57:31.

Steve Williams was next in a fine3:06:33 while Laetita Moakes ran the race of her life and smashed her PB time by 20 minutes, the only Sutton Lady completing London in 3:17:26.

Keith Brown, although suffering from heel problems early on in the race, held on superbly to register a brilliant time of 3:21:55 and Luke Freeman, a new member of Sutton Harriers, had a brilliant run on his debut marathon.

Suffering from cramp in the latter stages of the race, he registered a fine 3:48:48.
