Golden tournament for teenage swimming trio Ottaway, Boseley and Clogg

Swimmer Lily Boseley, who won three gold medals at the Yorkshire Championships.

Ollerton-based 15-year-old Ottaway, who goes to All Saints’ Academy, took gold as part of the 15-to-16-year-old boys’ 200m medley relay team for his club, the City of Sheffield. He swam an impressive breatstroke leg and added solid, long-course efforts in the 16-and-over boys’ 200m individual medley, 200m backstroke, 400m freestyle and 100m breaststroke. It was the perfect start to the season for the versatile Ottaway, who is emerging as a talented swimmer making terrific progress.

Fellow Sheffield squad member Boseley, who is also 15, celebrated a Yorkshire championship title too as she raced to glorious gold in the 16-and-over girls’ 100m backstroke. She completed a hat-trick of triumphs by being part of the 15-to-16-year-old girls’ 200m freestyle relay team and also the open girls’ 200m medley relay team.

A student at Kirkby College, Boseley didn’t finish there either. For she added silver medals as part of the 15-to-16-year-old girls’ 200m medley relay squad and the open girls’ 200m freestyle relay squad, and also swam solid races in the finals of the 16-and-over girls’ 200m individual medley, finishing eighth, and the 400m individual medley in the same age group, finishing sixth.

Rounding off a terrific tournament for City of Sheffield swimmers, the 17-year-old Clogg, of Kings Clipstone, won double gold as a member of the open boys’ 200m medley and 200m freestyle relay teams. Clogg also pocketed a silver medal in the final of the 16-and-over boys’ 200m backstroke, and produced a strong swim to finish fourth in the final of the 16-and-over boys’ 200m freestyle.

Boith Clogg and Bossley are now on their travels after receiving international call-ups to compete at meets in the USA and Europe.

Clogg joins a small squad of selected Team GB swimmers tackling the Arena Pro Series Meet in Indianapolis, while Boseley joins fellow England Programmes swimmers at the sixth Open Mediterranee in Marseille, France.

The standard at both competitions will be extremely high, and the duo will be expected to swim in multiple events as preparation for the British Championships, to be held in April, and other important meets during the summer.

With selection for the World Junior Championships, European Junior Championships, European Youth Olympic Festival and Youth Commonwealth Games also at stake, both Clogg and Boseley will be doing all they can to impress the coaching staff.
