Golden swimmers win county champion titles

Sherwood Colliery's swimmers have won individual and team county champion titles, Nottinghamshire age group category awards and even a British Swimming Championships qualifying time.

In the individual girls’ county champion competition, Rebecca Darrington took gold and the 10/11 years 200m butterfly title; Olivia Barrett won golds in the 12 years 50m and 100m breaststroke and a silver in the 200m; and Ellena Keigher gold in the 13 years 50m backstroke, adding silvers in the 200m backstroke and 50m butterfly.

Natalee Meldrum, who won silver in the 16 years and over 100m breaststroke and bronzes in the 50m breastroke and 50m freestyle, qualified for the British Championships with her time of 34.25seconds in the 50m breaststroke.

She will take her place alongside swimming’s elite at Sheffield in April.

In the individual boys, Dawid Sroka claimed golds in the 13 years 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle and 50m butterfly; five silvers and a bronze.

In the category awards, which rewards versatility across different strokes and distances, Dawid Sroka just missed out on top spot to finish runner-up in the boys’ 13 years section. Rebecca Flisher was third in the girls’ 15 years.

In the team relays, Gracie Clifton, Ellena Keigher, Nick Meldrum and Dawid Sroka won gold in the mixed 14 years 4x50m freestyle; Sroka, Meldrum, Joseph Sadler and Ben Flinton won gold in the boys’ 4x50m freestyle and medley; and Abbie Scott, Natalee Meldrum, Evie Timms and Rebecca Flisher gold in the 16 years 4x50m freestyle and medley.
