Giants juniors in the spotlight
Mansfield Giants junior basketball players have been in the spotlight as six of the club’s boys and girls players, Ashante Richards, Jess Vick, Mackenzie Sims, Jack Halstead, Alex Espin and Kieran Cosford were all selected to play in their respective U13 Nottinghamshire county teams in the East Midlands tournament, in Nottingham.
The girls were placed second, winning games against Derbyshire, Leicestershire and losing to Northamptonshire while the boys won against Derbyshire and lost against Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
Two of the Giants players, girls player Ashante Richards and boys player Jack Halsted, both playing a year too young for their respective squads, were then selected for the East Midlands squad, that will play in the England Basketball inter-regional tournament in July.
The inter regional program, is the first steps of the performance pathway of selecting players for the England Development squads.
