Giants beaten by a strong Ipswich side

The Mansfield Giants could not build on last week’s win as they went down 76-70 to a very strong Ipswich side in front of a sell out crowd at the Oak Tree Leisure Centre on Saturday.

The Giants had a good start to the game but never managed to really break away from the visitors, despiting winning the first quarter 20 - 18.

The Ipswich big men started to cause the Giants problems with their massive height advantage, but the Giants hung in there to go into the half time break just three points down.

Again, the Giants started well and took a six point lead, but a switch in defence by Ipswich stunned the Giants as they went on a 14 point run to go into the final period with a 60-52 lead.

The Giants never recovered from the Ipswich blitz. The young Giants team extended their defensive pressure and won the final quarter by two points, but struggled to contain the Ipswich point guard to go down by just six points.
