Former England captain Bill Beaumont dishes out the cash at Mansfield Armchair Club's latest sporting dinner

Mansfield's elite level cyclist Ross Lamb collects a £250 charitable donation from England rugby Union legend Bill Beaumont on behalf of the town's Armchair Club.

Ross, who was recently awarded his Elite Level British Cycling licence, received the cash boost during the Armchair Club’s latest sporting dinner at Portland College on Thursday night.

Ross has been racing in Belgium last season and is keen to progress to the European Racing Circuit next year and to become a professional cyclist in 2018.

The Armchair Club is a charitable organisation which offers cash support to promising young sportsmen and sportswomen across Mansfield and Ashfield.

So far it has already raised more than £200,000, with Ollie Hynd, Charlotte Henshaw, Oliver Wilson and Rebecca Adlington just some of the star names to have received financial support in their younger days.

The latest sporting dinner saw more than 250 guests enjoy an excellent after dinner speech from Mr Beaumont, who discussed his proud career as England captain and his tv career, which saw him star on Question of Sportt as team captain for more than a decade.
