York City recall Jason Mooney from Alfreton Town loan spell

Goalkeeper Jason Mooney has had his loan spell at Alfreton Town cut short by parent club York City.

City boss Russ Wilcox recalled Mooney after having number two keeper Bobby Olejnik pick up a red card against Mansfield Town last weekend which earned him a one-game suspension.

Mooney (26) had played a major part in helping Alfreton climb out of the relegation zone and open up a six-point gap over their nearest rivals ahead of the Easter fixtures.

He impressively kept five clean sheets in thirteen league appearances for Nicky Law’s side.

It means Tom Flynn who joined Alfreton on February 3rd on non-contract terms when George Willis’s loan fom Sheffield United ended, will now make his Reds debut in the Vanarama Conference fixture at Wrexham on Saturday.

Former Cowdenbeath keeper Flynn (24) began his career with Newcastle United’s Academy set-up before moving on to Scottish club Hibernian.

He had loan spells with both Albion Rovers and Alloa Athletic but has most recently been with Northern League club Consett AFC after being released by the Hibees.

Flynn will become the eighth goalkeeper used by Alfreton during the 2014/15 season.
