Wood step up in style with big away win

Sherwood Colliery kicked off their inaugural Step Six season in the East Midlands Counties League with a 3-0 win at Borrowash Victoria.

The Wood missed out on automatic promotion from the Central Midlands League after losing out on the title on the last day of the season, but stepped up after Holbrook Sports’s resignation.

With the majority of last season’s team re-signing, the club won four of their five pre-season games and continued the good form in the opening league match.

On 18 minutes Weaver put Shaun Smith through, but he was twice denied by the keeper.

The two were involved as Sherwood scored their first goal at Step Six right on half-time.
