Wingers top Stags' shopping list

Mansfield Town are looking to complete their squad with around five more players, three of them likely to be wingers and one a target man centre forward.

The Stags have already made two big signings in Bury striker Danny Rose and Burton centre half George Taft to add to the majority of last year’s strong squad of players.

Now boss Adam Murray believes: “We only need a handful of players now, so we we are being very specific.

“We have two major ones in and we’ll be working on the rest over the forthcoming weeks.

“Some of them we are going to have to work on mentally if we get them as they are from different environments. Some of the pieces of jigsaw will be things that make the greater good better.”

With Matty Blair already gone and Reggie Lambe holding out on signing a new deal with other offers on the table, Murray is very much in the market for wide men.

“The winger situation at the minute is we haven’t got any in the building,” he said.

“We probably need three. There are a couple I am really excited by as they are technically very good. One I feel has superb potential. But we’ll take our time.

“There are a lot of options in this area and if we are bringing wingers in, they’ve got to give us an output, whether that be goals, assists, or the ability to put balls into areas where the centre forwards can get on the end of them and score goals.

“There’s no point having wingers that don’t do that. We will go out there and find people that can do that if we can.

“If not we’ll find people who have the potential and make-up we can work with to help them do that.”
