Wigan Athletic vs Mansfield Town preview: Latest form, injury news, H2H record

Mansfield Town will look to hit their longest unbeaten league run of the season this weekend when they face Wigan Athletic.

Stags are currently up to eight games without defeat and have put seven points between them and the bottom four in League One. The priority for Nigel Clough and co is to mathematically secure their safety as soon as possible over these final fixtures.

Mansfield have a maximum of 21 points up for grabs between now and the end of the season, with 53 currently on the board. They are just one away from matching last season’s overall tally, with seven games left to play.

Saturday’s rivals Wigan Athletic are also in need of points to secure their survival. Latics are currently 18th in the League One table, just three points above the danger zone. Gary Caldwell’s side have also played two games fewer than Stags this season.

Clough feels confident Wigan have it in them to stay up this season and says they are ‘easily good enough’ to lock in their survival tactics.

Mansfield Town latest injury news

Liam Roberts was a big miss from Stags’ previous outing against Burton Albion and it is still unclear whether he will be available to face Wigan.

In his pre-match press conference, Clough said: “Couple of knocks for Liam Roberts, we will have to see how he is this week with his calf, he will be the main one. Harry Lewis is more than capable of deputising for him – as we’ve seen he’s come in and done really well for two games.”

Clough stressed that he won’t play Roberts this weekend if there is still a risk to his fitness.

“If it is his calf and it went, suddenly he’s missing for the rest of the season, and we don’t want that to happen.”

Mansfield Town vs Wigan Athletic form and H2H

Mansfield Town and Wigan Athletic have met each other on 36 occasions throughout their sides’ histories and it’s Latics who edge the competition. They have won 19 times compared to Stags’ 11, while the remaining six games finished as draws.

Mansfield’s last two meetings with Wigan ended even – a 0-0 and a 1-1 draw in March and October 2025 respectively. The most recent clash between the duo saw Will Evans take the lead for Stags but a second half equaliser from Oliver Cooper split the points.

Since the draw in October, Stags have been on a bit of a rollercoaster ride. November marked the start of a frustrating run, featuring six games without a win and five of them came as defeats. They then went unbeaten for eight matches, which is their joint best run in the league so far this season. One more positive result this weekend will mark Stags’ best run of the 2025/26 campaign and edge them closer to the desired 60-point mark.
