Nigel Pearson is the 4/1 early favourite to become the next permanent manager at Nottingham Forest.

With Dougie Freedman’s reign brought to an end by Forest yesterday, several big names have been bandied about as potential replacements.

Ex Leicester boss Pearson is joined in the rumour mill by the likes of David Moyes, Aitor Karanka and Nigel Clough, all currently 10/1 with Skybet.

Pearson has been out of managerial work since June last year, following his sacking by surprise Premier League title contenders Leicester City.

It’s no surprise that Clough’s name features high up on the bookies’ list, given his family’s association with the club, his status as a former player and his success with Burton Albion, currently topping League One.

Billy Davies is 6/1 to make a remarkable comeback for a third stint at the City Ground, having been sacked twice previously by Forest.

Republic of Ireland assistant manager Roy Keane is 25/1, as is Northern Irishman Neil Lennon, both of them ex Forest players.

Stuart Pearce is 33/1 to return to the club, the same odds offered on former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers.
