Back in January 2003, the two sides met in League Division Two – the equivalent to what is now League One – in a match that saw the visitors run out 2-1 winners thanks to goals from Nathan Ellington and Andy Liddell, Iyseden Christie scoring for Stags.
The two teams ended the season in contrasting moods, with Wigan crowned champions and Mansfield relegated to Division Three.
Here, we remember the Stags side that day and where their careers then took them.
1. Kevin Pilkington - Goalkeeper
Pilkington was a regular in Stags' goal for five years before leaving for Notts County in 2005, where again he featured as first-choice keeper for several seasons. Returned to Stags on loan in October 2010. He's now goalkeeping coach at Luton Town. Photo: Pete Norton
2. Bobby Hassell - Defender
Spent seven years with Stags before leaving for Barnsley in 2004, where he proceeded to remain for ten years before a spell in India at the end of his career. He's now academy manager back at Barnsley. Photo: .
3. Ben Doane - Defender
Played 11 games for Stags on loan from Sheffield United. Unfortunately, when he returned to the Blades he was injured in a game against Wimbledon and was forced to retire, but played amateur football locally and runs his own ceiling installation company. Photo: .
4. Tom Curtis - Midfielder
Curtis had enjoyed a long career with Chesterfield prior to coming to Mansfield and went on to feature for Chester, Nuneaton and Alfreton before retiring. He's now youth development phase lead at The Football Association. Photo: Pete Norton
