Weakened Ollerton achieve a fine draw

Depleted Ollerton Town defied the odds to bounce back from successive 3-1 defeats, drawing 0-0 with promotion-chasing Hallam for a hard-earned point on the road.

After those two disappointing losses to Dronfield Town and Harrogate Railway, Ollerton manager Dave Winter came into this game with at least seven players unavailable to him.

The first half proved to be a cagey affair, but this was welcome to an Ollerton side who had conceded six goals in the last two games.

Neither team really took a stranglehold of the game or created much of note within the first half, but perhaps Ollerton would’ve been slightly more disappointed that they didn’t take the advantage of attacking from the more preferential side of Hallam’s extremely sloped pitch.

Ben Partridge who had Ollerton’s biggest chance as, bearing down on goal from a tight angle, he struck the side netting instead of attempting to lay it off to Callum Littlejohn.

With less than quarter of an hour remaining Ollerton looked to be on course for a hard earned point, but they were arguably fortunate to hold onto this lead as Sam Smith squandered the most clear cut chance of the game as he headed over from point blank range.

Hallam then could’ve found themselves going down to 10 men after Julian Lawrence clipped Partridge as he looked set to go clear through on goal, but the referee was lenient on the hosts and awarded just a yellow card, much to the disgruntlement of the Ollerton faithful.

Ollerton then held firm and secured a well earned point to edge up to 14th.
