'We shouldn't be in dogfight'

The Reds trailed 2-0 at half-time and although Nyal Bell gave them hope with a 61st minute 25-yard strike, two further Spennymoor goals left Alfreton two points above the drop zone.

Fortunately for the Reds results elsewhere went their way, but they have played more matches than most of their relegation rivals.

Moyses said: “We were in the game for 30 minutes, doing OK and looking sound and solid.

“But again human error, individual mistakes cost us before half-time.

“We gave ourselves a mountain to climb.

“People have got to stand up and be accountable. It’s just not acceptable to say we were unlucky and it’s not going quite right for us , we need more than that.

“As a management group — and me personally — we are hurting like you wouldn’t believe and we feel let down.

“l’m very disappointed. Ultimately l take full responsibility for everything on the playing side, but people who play for me have got to start to do that.

“Otherwise we’re in a dog-fight that we shouldn’t be in — not with the facilities and with the way the club is.

“It doesn’t deserve this and they (the players) need to realise that quickly.”

The visitors took their chances well, building a two-goal lead by half-time, thanks to a wonder strike from 35 yards by Nathan Lowe on 36 minutes and a simple follow-up by Glen Taylor right on half-time after Viktor Johannson parried a shot from Shane Henry.

After Bell pulled a goal back, Chris Sharp headed against the crossbar from a Tom Allan throw.

But at the other end Taylor went on to complete his hat-trick with simple finishes in the 79th and 90th minutes to complete the Reds’ misery.

To make matters worse for Alfreton, skipper and influential defender Luke Shiels limped off seven minutes from time, meaning the home side finished with 10 men.

The hosts’ best effort of the first half came on 17 minutes when Sharp’s powerful drive was turned behind by former Reds’ keeper Dan Lowson, with Allan glancing a header wide from the ensuing Brendon Daniels corner.

Nine minutes later Daniels’ driven cross was dropped by Lowson but Chris Chantler was able to hack clear.

Eight minutes after the break Craig Westcarr turned neatly to fire at the target, but Lowson made a superb diving save.
