The Central Midlands League side began the day as underdogs and trailed 1-0 to in-form Clipstone, who have a 100 per cent league record, as early as the 15th minute.

But they hit back to take the tie and Clipstone boss Chris Millington said: “We had a bad day and they played well, so it was a recipe for disaster for us.

“It was a game of two halves. We were one up and had enough chances to have gone two or three up.

“But they had the better of the second half, defending really well and coming at us.

“We didn’t perform well, but it is important we now move on and keep our league form going.

“But take nothing way from Blidworth. They played really well and I don’t want to sound like I am making excuses.

“They hit us down the slope in the second half with two really well-taken goals and left us a bit shellshocked.”

Jake Currie put Clipstone ahead only for Liam Theakstone to level it before the break on 32 minutes.

Max Curzon then put Blidworth ahead four minutes into the second half and, when Theakstone grabbed his second on the hour, an upset looked on the cards.

Dan Wood kept Clipstone hopes and the tie alive when he made it 3-2 on 74 minutes, but Sam Duckwray wrapped up the upset six minutes from time.
