Popular Welshman David Vaughan has signed a new one-year deal with Nottingham Forest.

Vaughan has cited the optimism around the club since new boss Mark Warburton arrived as being one of the key factors behind his decision, with the 34-year-old believing a bright future lies ahead at the City Ground.

And he was quick to express his delight at having committed to the club.

He said: “I am delighted to have signed a new contract here. It is a great club, the fans are great and it feels like it’s the start of something.

“I have always enjoyed a good relationship with the fans. With them getting behind us in the numbers they did in the final few games of last season, I strongly believe we can achieve success.

“We need their support from start to finish and it’s great to see so many fans already purchasing their reduced season card.

“Since the manager has come in the lads have really bought in to what he is trying to do and we feel we can give it a really good go next season.

“With the new owners coming into the club as well, I felt it was something that I had to be part of as it is a really exciting time to be at Nottingham Forest.”

With Vaughan signing for another year, it’ll mean he will enter his fifth year from the club after he joined on loan from Sunderland in 2013, eventually signing permanently soon afterwards.

He featured 33 times for the Reds last season, playing a vital role as Forest secured Championship safety on the final day of the season.

He said: “I have loved my time at Forest and I really enjoyed the way we were playing at the end of the season. The manager has got us playing the way I have always played; on the ground and playing football the right way.

“Last season we underachieved massively but we have a strong squad and now that we have the right structure in place on and off the pitch, I feel it could be a good year next year.”
