Trophy replay afterBulls draw a blank

Disappointed management duo Rudy Funk and Mark Ward said AFC Mansfield's FA Trophy debut was one of their worst performances of the season.

The Bulls were held 0-0 at Bostik League North Soham Town Rangers, leading to a preliminary round replay at Forest Town last night.

“It was probably one of the poorest performances we have delivered this season,” said manager Funk.

“We have come here after a long trip. Everyone was right as rain and the preparation was good.

“But we have not delivered at the top end and that’s disappointing considering the quality we have in our ranks.

“But fair play to our opponents — they had a couple of chances and we had very little to shout about.”

Assistant manager Ward said that the most frustrating thing about the result was the lack of quality when the Bulls advanced into dangerous positions.

“We did not create any clear-cut chances,” he said.

“If we read the game a little better or if the final pass was a bit better, we could have scored two or three.”

Bulls keeper Jason White twice came to the rescue in the first-half, first blocking Joe Carden’s one-on-one effort early on after the forward was put through on goal by Sam Mulready.

Lewis Endacott was the second to be denied by man-of-the-match White after the half-hour.

The Bulls did have the ball in the net deep into injury- time but Jordan Annable’s header from a Liam Marsden throw-in was ruled out for a push before it crossed the line.
