Trading standards team warn England football fans to look out for Brazil World Cup ticket scam

FIFA advises the only source of official and guaranteed tickets for the forthcoming international football tournament is via its website on www.fifa.com

No other websites have any rights to sell World Cup tickets legitimately and resellers operating or offering tickets are violating the terms and conditions of the tickets and are breaking Brazilian laws.

Residents are also being warned about a lottery scam where victims receive an email or letter claiming to be from the FIFA World Cup Lottery and stating they have won a prize or a ticket to the World Cup.

The Council encourages residents to ignore such offers as they involve supplying personal details to process the ‘payment’.

World Cup attendees should take care with online advertisements for rental accommodation in Brazil as they often require payment for apartments that are either non-existent or unavailable to rent.

Coun Glynn Gilfoyle, Chair of Nottinghamshire County Council’s Community Safety Committee, said: “As the anticipation for the next World Cup builds, many local football fans may be tempted to buy tickets from an unofficial source but they could be left out of pocket with nothing to show for the money that they’ve forked out.

“Scammers are also exploiting other avenues such as bogus rented apartments and land investment opportunities in Brazil which residents need to be aware of and avoid at all costs.”
