Tom '˜Cookes' up a cracker in Ollerton victory

Tom Cooke's stunning 40-yard goal was the highlight as Ollerton went on to secure an important victory over Askern Welfare on Saturday.

Ollerton lost to Askern 5-1 back in October but this time around it was Ollerton who were 5-1 winners thanks to Cooke’s goal and further efforts by Kyle Clarkson, Eddie Bishop and a brace by Lewis Bingham.

Ollerton began well and eventually took the lead when Askern backed off Cooke around 40-yards out and he struck a powerful effort which swerved into the top corner.

Ollerton soon doubled their lead as Sam Dockwray’s shot was deflected to Clarkson who back-heeled into the corner.

After the half time break, Askern’s Shayn Mundy twice went close and Clarkson hit the post for Ollerton but it was Welfare who scored next as Ollerton failed to pick up Haydan Tomlinson from a set-piece and he had the time and space to blast an effort past keeper Smith.

Ollerton settled any potential nerves by restoring their two-goal cushion and making it 3-1 as Clarkson delivered a free-kick into the area and Eddie Bishop rose highest at the far post to thump a header into the net.

Ollerton went on to grab two more goals late on, Bingham with them both as he first capitalised on a defensive error and then netted following a Clarkson corner to round off the win.
