Thrills aplenty in CML cup ties

The Friday night fixture featured the Hucknall derby, a superb contest which was a credit to both teams, with Rolls progressing 3-2 after extra time against their neighbours from Hucknall Town. South Division leaders Town were a man short from the 21st minute as Callum Davidson departed after two yellow cards, but despite this they opened the scoring on 48 minutes through Kajally Danso.

That’s how it stayed until eight minutes from time when Jack Smith forced the tie into extra-time. Smith completed a well taken hat-trick for Rolls in the final 10 minutes with Niall Thompson late goal keeping Town’s hopes alive until the final whistle.

Phoenix and Thorne Colliery also needed extra time to separate them after scoring five each in the first 90 minutes. The Rotherham side finished stronger to claim the tie 8-5.

James Lawton scored a hat-trick for the home side, Rob Gorman added two and there were also goals for Daniel Payne, Scott McKenna and Suhail Hussain.

Thorne’s goals came from Kyle Palmer (2), Danny Bulman, Kirk Frost and Glynn Powell.

Selston took a fifth minute lead through an Aaron Brady goal against Holbrook St Michaels.

Sean Gregory doubled the score before Ben Wallace pulled one back. Brady’s second and one from Stephen Radzinski set them on the way to a 4-2 win, Silas Majoni getting Holbrook’s second in the dying minutes.

Guy Taylor’s 13th minute goal set Swanwick Pentrich Road on the way to a 3-0 win over Easington United. Sub Guy Wilding got the second with his first touch on 65 minutes before he rounded off the scoring eight minutes from time.

Kaylum Mitchell’s two second half goals sent Linby Colliery through at the expense of Collingham, while Pinxton returned from Mickleover RBL 4-1 winners thanks to two goals from Jake Vernon and one apiece for Danny O’Donnell and Tom Ellis.

Harworth Colliery and Bentley Colliery were level at 1-1 after extra-time at Scrooby Road, Blake Freeman’s opener for Harworth being cancelled out by Dan Reid. Harworth held their nerve in the penalty shoot-out, going through 9-8.

After scoring six goals in the second half last Saturday, Glapwell went three better in their Black Dragon Badges North Division game at Dinnington Town.

After going into the break one down to a Brad Parker goal, the visitors hit no fewer than nine in the second 45 minutes to take their tally to 17 in the last two games.

Daniel Russell led the way with four, Josh Parfitt scored two and there was one each for Jake Ballinger, Lee Naughton with a penalty and Jordan Jones.

In circumstances where some clubs may well have considered calling off the game, Welbeck Welfare assembled a scratch side for their trip to Appleby Frodingham, but they were no match for the leaders who amassed 23 goals as they swamped their visitors.

Welbeck’s troubles were compounded through the loss of two players through injury by half-time and another in the second half, finishing the game with just eight players. Dayle Hutson top-scored with nine, Steve McCarron struck five and Kirk Shrimpton added a hat-trick.

There were two for Richard Golland, the others coming from Paul Tait, Liam Wright, Joe Moloney and an own goal.

Just one goal came between Retford and Ollerton Town, the decisive strike coming from Retford’s Simon Brewster on 58 minutes.

Dronfield Town Reserves pulled off their second win in a week, as they saw off Askern 4-1 at Gosforth Fields. Wayne Garrioty’s brace and one each from ZuZu Tshuma and Alex Jones sewed up the points, Alex Reynolds replying for Askern.

Eastwood Community took advantage of other teams’ cup commitments to climb to top spot in the Black Dragon Badges South division courtesy of a 4-2 defeat of Bulwell, all six goals coming in the first half.

Adam Whitehead put the Bulls in front on six minutes, but Eastwood countered with Warren Hatfield, Jack Havron from the penalty spot and Ollie Buxton giving them a comfortable lead. Conor Carter reduced the arrears but Jake Danby completed the scoring two minutes from the interval.

Southwell City remain without a point after Clay Cross Town’s four goal win at Bishop’s Drive. Tomas Poole with two, Danny Fullwood and Nathan Jessop were all on the scoresheet to guarantee maximum points.

Belper United rose to third after a three goal win at Keyworth United, Adam Robley, Alfie Holland and Sam Vickers the scorers.
