Teversal form halted by high-flying Aquaforce

Teversal’s recent good form was brought to a sudden halt when NCEL Division One second placed Shaw Lane Aquaforce arrived at Carnarvon Street hoping to bring to an end their worst run of results all season, having lost two on the bounce, and cruised to a 4-0 victory.

The Barnsley side signed Jason Price from Selby Town to make his debut, and the ex-professional had a major impact on the game along with the equally impressive Kane Reece.

Fom the kick-off, Aquaforce dominated the game, playing the round with purpose and a tempo the home side simple found difficult to match.

So it was no surprise when the visitors took a 15th minute lead when McGhie broke through the heart of the Teversal midfield before playing in a timely and well weighted pass that invited Price to fire home.

Brooks was alert and made an excellent save only for the ball to run back to Price, who cleverly chipped it over the stranded keeper and with enough pace that was to beat Wilson’s attempted goal line clearance.

The home side had a few flurries forward, but the only effort of note came from a free kick by Barke that found Ashley, but the defender’s header was easily gathered by Green in the Aquaforce goal.

For the dominance the visitors were having they really should have been further in front than the single goal.

They went close on 31 minutes when Coy produced a great cross that was headed on by Price to the unmarked Keane, who fired a fierce strike that saw Brooks make an excellent save before the loose ball was cleared by Ashley.

Then Price produce a piece of pure quality skill to flick the ball over Wilson to create himself the time and space to double the lead, but the finish wasn’t out of the same drawer as the flick and it went woefully wide.

Having managed to keep the score at just 1-0 at the break, Teversal would have hoped to come out in the second half and try to have a spell to get back in the game. But it wasn’t to be as the visitors looked impressive and hungry to put those two losses behind them.

On 49 minutes, the home side took a severe blow when they lost possession with the ball immediately spread out to Reece, who took one touch before unleashing an unstoppable effort into the bottom corner of the goal to make it 2-0.

Credit must go to the Teversal side who shown some resilient defending with both Schofield and Ashley putting in excellent performances at the heart of the Tevie backline, so much so that it took until the last two minutes for Shaw Lane to put a true reflection on the scoreline to match their dominance.

The first came from sub Steve McDonnell, who was fouled by Barke’s mistimed challenge before getting up to send Brooks the wrong way with his penalty to make it 3-0.

The fourth goal was a quality move when McDonnell superbly held up a high ball before picking out Price’s timely run for a cool, calm and calculated finished that you would expect from a player of calibre.

On Saturday Teversal will need to raise their game and produce something special as they travel to Barnsley to again face the impressive Shaw Lane Aquaforce with a 3pm kick-off.
