Teversal dominant but defeated against Yorkshire Amateur

Again the Teversal faithful left Carnarvon Street wondering how they hadn’t bagged all three points after dominating the second period of their 2-1 defeat to Yorkshire Amateur.

It was the home side who created the first real threat on 16 minutes when Dave Cockerill fired just wide from 25 yards after a good turn.

Teversal thought they had taken the lead on 22 minutes when Tobin split the Ammers’ defence with a superbly weighted pass that sent Pursglove clear.

He chipped over Bojang and in to the back of the net, only for his effort to be flagged offside.

On 33 minutes, things went from bad to worse for the hosts when a Marsden cross saw first Hill and then Hughes block attempted clearances with the second ricochet falling at the feet of Carl Heard who fired home from eight yards.

What felt like inevitable the equaliser arrived on 61 minutes when Dawson calmly slotted home after a superb passing move involving Harris, Tobin, Robinson and Pursglove.

The tempo was raised by the Tevie Boys and another excellent passing move saw Harris then Cockerill denied by defensive blocks and Dawson fired a fierce volley only inches over the bar.

A minute later Dawson went even closer when he seized on a weak effort from Tobin to again fire a fierce strike that smashed against the face of the bar with Bojang grasping at thin air.

But the stubborn defending by Yorkshire Amateurs had its rewards when on 69 minutes, and totally against the run of play, the visitors regained the lead when McGurk’s attempted clearance hit Heard with the ball dropping nicely into the path of Joel Hughes who calmly finished from 18 yards again giving Kerry no chance.

Yorkshire Amateur continued to defend resiliently for the last 20 minutes as the hosts had wave after wave of pressure nullified as they went searching the rewards their efforts deserved.

The best opportunity came when Dave Cockerill delivered the perfect free-kick that cancelled out the visitors rear guard to invite Gary Atkins to raise above all at the back post, but the midfielder could only guide his effort wide of the target.

If Teversal continue with this level of performance they are surely going to pick up the results they deserve and someone could end up getting a defeat to the Tevie Boys.
