Teversal break run of draws in style

Preparations were dealt a severe blow when the squad from the previous week’s 1-1 draw with Pontefract Collieries was decimated with no fewer than six players missing from that squad.

But when one door closes another opens and a first start was given to recent signings Sean Dickinson and Triston Burrell, along with a debut from the bench for youth product Lewis Weaver.

The much-changed Tevie Boys soon settled in the game, and the opening goal arrived on 17 minutes when Oli Wood finished rewarding the early promise.

Burrell was then delighted to mark his first start with a goal that arrived on 33 minutes to give the visitors a deserved 2-0 lead for the level of football they were playing on the excellent Hemsworth pitch.

Hemsworth worked hard playing a more direct and physical type of game that was aimed at intimating their guests, and on the stroke of half-time Ryan Pleasants brought some hope to the home dressing room as they went in at the break 2-1 down. Teversal came out in the second period showing they hadn’t been fazed by the Hemsworth goal and after only three minutes of the restart they regained their two-goal cushion when Burrell finished a neat passing move to make it 3-1.

Hemsworth pushed to get back in the game, but on the hour mark the game was as good as over when Mark Robinson made it 4-1 before Lee Dawson managed to pull another back from the home side making 4-2 on 69 minutes and restore some hope. Again the Tevie boys responded with Wood matching his strike partner by notching his second of the afternoon to make it 5-2 with 12 minutes to play.

To add to an impressive result, the debut of Weaver was another major plus for Teversal, with the 16-year-old standing up to the challenge and two excellent opportunities to score, but he was denied by an excellent save from the home keeper and then put an effort wide after Wood had been denied.

Teversal will be hoping they can keep the unbeaten run going on Saturday when they entertain Hallam at Carnorvon Street with a 3pm kick off.
