Teams lining up to try and halt Selston's winning run '“ which now stands at 12

Teams are lining up to take a shot at Selston's remarkable winning streak, which is only motivating Craig Weston's men all the more.

The manager says he’s well aware that every side they face in the Central Midlands Black Dragon Division South is out to halt their progress.

Saturday’s 4-1 win over Linby made it 12 victories on the bounce, albeit without playing to the best of their ability, and Selston host midtable Blidworth this weekend, expecting a battle.

Weston said: “We’re on a really good run, and we’re full of confidence, looking forward to every game.

“But the games are getting tougher and tougher because everyone is looking to end our run.

“Swanwick came to us earlier in the season on a 21-game unbeaten run and my team talk was all about stopping it at 21, and we did it.

“That’s on the other foot now, it’s us up there and people are trying their best to end the run.

“So we know we have to be at our best every game, it’s motivation – we can’t afford to carry any passengers.”

Selston might be second in the table, a point behind leaders Belper United with two games in hand, but Weston isn’t allowing talk to turn to the title just yet.

“The players are aware of it, because these days everything is at your fingertips, you can check everything online,” he said.

“But we don’t talk about it yet.

“There’s a long way to go.”

And he’s keen to ensure no team gets taken lightly, including Saturday’s visitors.

“They’re in a false position in the league, they’re going to be a bigger test than Linby were,” he said.

“I just want to make sure we don’t slip up and become a scalp for them.

“It’s a strong league, you play someone from the bottom and if you’re not careful you will slip up – if you underestimate anyone.”

Weston has the luxury of a fit squad to choose from, with the added boost that Sean Gregory has recovered from a knock sustained on Saturday.

“We had to take him off, but I expect him to be fit – he’s a very good player at our standard, he’s important to us,” said the manager.

“You can see he’s got tremendous class, and there was no point in risking him last weekend.

“So I’ve got no forced changes, no injuries.”

That win over Linby was a pleasing result for Weston, but when you’ve won your last 12 on the trot, you soon become a perfectionist.

He said: “We did the job, but it wasn’t our best performance.

“But I know from being a player that when you’re 3-0 up in the space of 25 minutes, it’s hard to keep your motivation up and to keep that standard up.

“We conceded one, which is a bit of a blow, the defence wants clean sheets all the time.

“We’ve won 4-1 and I’m not extremely happy, but it was a professional performance.”
