Swanwick Pentrich Road beat Sandiacre Town to progress in cup

Swanwick Pentrich Road Reserves defeated Sandiacre Town 4-3 to progress to the semi-finals of The County Cup.

With many local games in the area called off, a bumper crowd made its way to Highfield Road to witness what turned in to a Christmas cracker.

The first 15 minutes were very one sided, with the home side taking a two goal lead.

The first of a Chris Turner double came from a well delivered Chris Bradley corner, finding Turner unmarked on the back post.

The second of the brace came from a set piece yet again as he fired home a delightful free-kick dispatch out of the keepers reach.

With a two goal lead many presumed the match was to be a one sided affair.

But a solid Sandiacre side had other ideas and soon had the Swans’ defence turning to face their own goal.

The comeback began on the 20 minute mark from Turner yet again. However, this time it was J. Turner of Sandiacre.

Scores were then levelled when a defection aided Dilks to find the back of the net.

Sandiacre continued to press down the flanks, exposing the full-backs to their advantage.

The away side soon took the lead when Dilks met a fantastic cross with a bullet header at the back post.

The half-time interval was a great opportunity for caretaker manager Lee Lawrence to change the formation to give the Swan’s more width and the trick worked. The match was levelled soon after the restart when fans favourite Richard Jeffery lobbed the keeper after some confusion between the visitors back four.

With the first team match called off in the morning there was plenty of support for the home side and there will be very few cheers across the country as loud as the one made when David Robinson sealed victory for the Swans.

Robinson, a threat all game, found himself unmarked at the back post to tap home the ball to the huge delight of the home crowd.

The Swans now move into the semi-final of the County Cup and remain in all three cup competitions that they have entered.
