Swanwick Pentrich Road and Ripley Town commemorate Football Remembers with friendly

With a gap in schedules for both teams, Ripley Town and Swanwick Pentrich Road Res decided to take the opportunity to commemorate the Football Remembers weekend with a friendly.

The last encounter in the Taddy Walters Cup was a very one sided affair and it proved to the same as visiting Swanwick emerged with a 4-1 win.

However, with former Swans Ben Summers and Tom Yates recently joining the Town ranks, this was always going to be a sterner test for the Swans.

David Robinson was set through on goal by Chris Bradley to break the deadlock.

This lead was soon doubled when Robinson again drove the ball low to leave the Ripley keeper with no chance.

Ripley’s Tom Yates was to score the games finest goal on the 25 minute mark.

Yates, found himself in space from distance and cleverly guided the ball into the top corner.

To his credit the former Swanwick player did the honourable thing and refrained from celebrating, even though the goal deserved it.

Ripley began to break on the Swanwick backline, however, Phil Gregory and Richard Jeffery at the heart of the defence kept the home side at bay.

A hat-trick soon ensued when Ripley simply failed to pick up yet another run and finish from Robinson.

It was fair to say that the second half was dominated by the visitors, with the Swan’s giving debuts to Mark Turner, Jake Ford and Jack Gardner.

The game was done and dusted on the 60th minute mark, when yet again David Robinson found the back of the net, this time rounding the keeper before finishing.

The match was fantastic way to be part of the Football Remembers weekend and gave all players involved the minutes they have been lacking, during this poor weather period.
